Wearing Invisalign®

You will need to wear your Invisalign® at least 22 hours a day, during the day and when you go to sleep. That means, you take the aligners out when you eat and put them right back into your mouth after. The clear aligners will only work if you wear them faithfully! You will switch out the trays 7 - 14 days, depending on what your orthodontist prescribes.

Attachments

We may place tooth colored composite on your teeth (attachments). We do this because certain teeth are more crooked than others and require more anchorage. By adding attachments, we can have more control of your tooth movements.

Food Selection

With Invisalign®, you can eat fairly the same food without worrying about breaking appliances in your mouth! Be aware though that certain foods and drinks , such as red wine and curry, can discolor your teeth more than others.

Cleaning Your Invisalign®

It is important to keep your aligners clean while you wear them. After eating, make sure to brush and floss your teeth before placing your aligners back into your mouth. If you don’t have access to a toothbrush and floss, we recommend rinsing your mouth out with water. You’ll also want to brush your aligners regularly with cold water and toothpaste. Do not use hot water or else your aligners will deform!

Broken Attachments and Lost Trays

If your attachments come off your teeth, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can schedule you to assess the area. Your orthodontist will let you know if it is necessary to replace the attachments.

If you lost your trays, we can order you replacement aligners. Do not wait too long to let us know or else your teeth can move and your treatment will be longer than expected.
